If you take your hands off the steering wheel of a moving car, what happens? It doesn’t keep going straight. It drifts into the ditch. This is The Law of Entropy. Systems tend toward disorder.
The Calculus of Trajectory
Right now, you are on a specific trajectory in every area of your life. If you change nothing—if you just keep doing exactly what you are doing today—where will you be in 5 years?
This is your Default Future.
-
Health: If you keep eating/moving like today, will you be fit or diabetic in 5 years?
-
Wealth: If you keep saving/spending like today, will you be free or broke?
-
Relationships: If you keep communicating like today, will you be married or divorced?
The “Known Exit”
Most people refuse to look at the Default Future because it is terrifying. They hope for a miracle. “Maybe things will just get better.” Things never “just get better.” Gardens don’t weed themselves. Houses don’t clean themselves. Without active energy, the Default Future is always decay.
The Protocol: The vector Change
To escape the Default Future, you cannot just “try harder” (Magnitude). You must change the Angle (Vector).
-
Write the Horror Story: explicitly write down your Default Future. “If I don’t change, in 5 years I will be 20lbs heavier, stuck in middle management, and bored.”
-
The Intervention: You need a Discontinuity. A radical break.
-
Not “I will eat slightly less.” (Drift).
-
But “I will stop buying sugar.” (Vector Change).
-
Not “I will work harder.” (Drift).
-
But “I will quit this job and start the company.” (Vector Change).
-
#DhandheKaFunda: If you are not steering, you are drifting. And the wind never blows in the direction of a specific port.
